Falklands anniversary veterans interview

Thirty years ago today the Falklands Islands were invaded by Argentinian troops. Within days Margaret Thatcher's government had dispatched a task force 8 thousand miles to retake them. Amongst them were two young soldiers from Greater Manchester.

Falklands special report

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the invasion of the Falkland Islands The war that followed lasted 74 days and cost just over 900 British and Argentinian lives. It ended with the liberation of the islands but it also left many survivors with memories that would change their lives forever.

Granada's Tony Morris met up with two veterans from our region, Ian Winnard and Andy Bancroft, who both served with Second Battalion the Parachute Regiment. Despite the loss of several friends, 30 years on, they said they were proud to serve their country:
