HSE charge over PC Terry

The Health and Safety Executive will bring charges against GMP over the death of PC Ian Terry. The Crown Prosecution Service decided yesterday there wasn't enough evidence to bring criminal charges over his death.

HSE charges over Terry death

Greater Manchester Police will face charges from the Health and Safety Executive over the death of PC Ian Terry, who was shot dead by a colleague in 2008 during a training exercise. The HSE will bring charges against:

  • Greater Manchester Police – for an alleged breach of Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974(HSWA).
  • The Exercising Conducting Officer, who was responsible for running the 9 June course – for an alleged breach of Section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
  • One of the Exercise Safety Officers, who assisted the lead officer in running the course – for an alleged breach of Section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
