Clean up begins after heavy rain causes flash flooding

There are reports of a car being stranded in flood water in Cheshire.

The A529 Green Lane in Audlem is closed due to flooding between the A525 Whitchurch Road and Bagley Lane. Police are in attendance

Heavy rain is leading to flash flooding across areas of Cheshire.

These were the scenes at the Cheshire Oaks designer outlet this afternoon. Entrances to shops at the park near Ellesmere Port can be seen covered in standing water.

Emergency services have been dealing with a number of callouts after heavy rain came down this afternoon.

Flash floods have caused misery for residents and businesses in several parts of our region.

And there are now new Met Office weather warnings for this week in the North West.

Meanwhile the clean-up operation is underway in the town of Poynton in Cheshire.

More flooding is expected across the region today following torrential downpours.

Flash floods are affecting the following roads in the North West:

• Parts of the A530 Middlewhich road in Cheshire is closed
• A5102 Bramhall Lane in Greater Manchester is closed

Flood alerts remain in place in Cheshire and Greater Manchester. United Utilities says it is trying to help everyone affected.

Replacement buses are running in place of Northern Rail services between Buxton and Hazel Grove in Stockport after a landslip at Middlewood station.

The line is not expected to reopen until Wednesday morning at the earliest.

The firm says it is working with Network Rail to return services to normal as soon as possible.
