Christmas flooding: December storms bring misery to North West
Communities across the North West have been hit severe flooding over Christmas and the New Year after a series of December storms wreaked havoc on the country. The Army and an RAF chinook have helped avert disaster in the Lancashire village of Croston where three severe flood warnings were in place.

Royal visit to meet flood victims
Prince Harry is visiting the North West. He'll speak to soldiers who played a crucial role in responding to the flood crisis in Lancashire. Prince Harry will also visit areas affected to see the damage caused by flooding and the impact on the community. The deluge brought by Storm Desmond flooded around 5,000 homes in Cumbria and Lancashire causing millions of pounds worth of damage.

Frustration over closure of Victoria Bridge in Cumbria
Residents in flood-hit Kendal in Cumbria have spoken of their continued frustration over the closure of a badly damaged bridge in the middle of the town.
December's record rainfall has forced the closure of Victoria Bridge, one of the areas's main traffic routes.
The council say it won't open until the weather improves, much to the despair of local businesses.
Cameron pledges floods cash
David Cameron has pledged two million pounds to repair flood hit areas across the region. And a further one million pounds for an advertising campaign to boost tourism.
Today's announcement came as the prime minister visited parts of Cumbria and Lancashire hit by last month's record rainfall. He insists the government is doing all it can to help residents and businesses. But critics say the response is woefully inadequate.

The Prime Minister has been visiting parts of Lancashire and Cumbria hit by record rainfall and flooding last month. David Cameron was in Croston this morning where he announced 2 million pounds in funding for repairs and the promotion of tourist attractions to help bring business back to flood-affected areas. The money will be used to fix bridges, walls and footpaths in time for school holidays.
Back in business after the floods
Residents and businesses in an area badly affected by flooding say they're working hard to rebuild their lives.
Whalley in Lancashire was flooded after the downpours on Boxing Day last year. People are still counting the cost after the water caused damage to a many homes and commercial properties.
