The husband of Rania Alayed, a mother of three from Manchester, has been found guilty of her murder and jailed for life.
Rania plucked up the courage to leave her husband, Ahmed Al Khatib, after he'd subjected her to a prolonged campaign of domestic violence over her desire to live a more westernised lifestyle. Rania disappeared without trace in June last year - her body has never been found.
Rania Alayed had started to 'better her life'
Detective Inspector Phil Reade describes Rania as a lovely young woman looking forward to life after leaving her husband in January of last year. He says she had had enough of the regular beatings and abuse. The senior officer confirmed that the search for her body continues in North Yorkshire.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Reade from Greater Manchester Police says it was an 'honour killing' and it was investigated as that from the start as Rania was becoming more western in her attitude to life in Manchester.
Rania Alayed's husband sentenced to life with a minimum of 20 years.
Ahmed Al-Khatib, 34, of Knutsford Road, Gorton has been jailed for life after being found guilty of the murder of his wife Rania Alayed. The judge directed he serve a minimum of 20 years.
Hussain Al-Khatib of Knutsford Road, Gorton was found guilty of perverting the course of juctice. He was jailed for four years.
Ahmed Al-Khatib's brother Muhanned Al-Khatib, 38, of Arthur Millwood Court, Salford was found not guilty of murder. He received a three-year term. The pair had already admitted perverting the course of justice by hiding Rania's body.

• 6.40pm – Rania and her children seen on CCTV leaving her house in Cheetham Hill
• 7.28pm – Rania and her children seen on CCTV getting off a bus on Chapel Street, Salford
• 7.31pm – Rania and her children arrive at Arthur Millwood Court
• 8.19pm – Muhaned and Rania’s children leave Arthur Millwood Court
Rania was almost certainly murdered in the proceeding 45 minutes, while the children were in the flat
• 8.36pm – Muhaned and children arrive at their grandparents house on Knutsford Road, Gorton
• 12.01am – Muhaned leaves Arthur Millwood Court with a tent in a holdall, probably used later to either conceal them digging Rania’s grave or to lay her body out on it
• 1.17am Khatib, Muhaned and Hussain set off in the campervan, containing Rania’s body in a red suitcase
• 3.10am The campervan triggers an ANPR camera on the A19 near Thirsk
• 4.54am – The campervan triggers another ANPR camera on the A1, heading south, presumably after the body was buried
