Around 400 people attended a memorial service on the Isle of Man tonight to remember the victims of the Summerland fire disaster 40 years ago.

Among them were the relatives of those who died.

A service of remembrance is to be held on the Isle of Man for the victims of the Summerland fire disaster 40 years ago today.

Fifty people, nine of them children, died in the blaze at the leisure complex. 80 were injured

The complex in Douglas had been open for just over two years when the disaster happened.

It led to a major change in fire regulations on the Isle of Man and in the UK.

A memorial bearing the names of those who died will be unveiled in the Kaye Memorial Garden, at the bottom of Summer Hill, Douglas.
