Preston is thanking the people who've contributed to the city's proud history as part of the Guild celebrations and this year, members of the public were asked to nominate who they think should be made an honorary Burgess.

Hundreds of hereditary burgesses have been admitted to the guild court as part of Preston's 2012 Guild celebrations.

It's a tradition that dates back to the 12th century when merchants were only allowed to trade in the town if they paid a small fee.
