Four attempted murder arrests after man stabbed and schools placed on lockdown in Tyldesley
Two men and two teenage girls have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing that saw two schools placed on lockdown.The "serious assault" happened on Alexandra Street in Tyldesley shortly before 9am on Friday, 13 December, with police and paramedics attending the scene at 8:50am.
The injured man, who is in his 40s, was taken to hospital by ambulance where he remains. His injuries are 'serious but not life-threatening" Greater Manchester Police (GMP) added.
Two men in their 20s, a 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, have all been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in custody for questioning.
St George's Central CE Primary School and Fred Longworth High School were placed on lockdown in the aftermath but GMP now say this is believed to be an "isolated incident" with "no wide threat to the community".
A message was sent to parents of children at Fred Longworth High this afternoon saying: "GMP are advising that all local schools and wider community may operate as normal."Therefore, school will close at the usual time and students will be released as normal. GMP will ensure that there is a police presence in and around the area of the incident this evening to provide reassurance."
Chief Inspector Adam Wignall from GMP's Wigan district said: “I would like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the general public.“We have arrested four individuals, and we continuing to piece together the full circumstances that led to this incident taking place.
"Our officers will remain in the area today over the weekend, providing reassurance and they will be happy to assist with any queries you may have.“I would urge anyone with any information about this incident to please get in touch. This could include CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage from around the time of the incident and captures something that looks suspicious.”
