Coronation Street actor Timothy West dies aged 90
Actor Timothy West died "peacefully in his sleep" over the weekend, as ITV News' reporter Sam Holder reports
Coronation Street actor Timothy West has died aged 90, his family has announced.
He was known for his roles as Eric Babbage in Coronation Street and playing Stan Carter in EastEnders.
A joint statement, released by his family, said the actor died "peacefully in his sleep" and was "with his friends and family at the end".
His three children, Juliet, Samuel and Joseph West described their dad as having a "long and extraordinary life on and off the stage".
In a statement uploaded to X, his daughter and two sons said: "After a long an extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old. Tim was with friends and family at the end.
"He laves his wife Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
"All of us will miss him terribly."
Timothy and his wife Prunella Scales, 92, appeared in the documentary series Great Canal Journeys between 2014 and 2021, which saw the pair travelling on narrowboats together.
His family thanked "the incredible NHS staff" at St George's Hospital, Tooting and at Avery Wandsworth for caring from Timothy during his final days.
