Whitworth couple wake up to a strange noise and find sheep on their roof in Lancashire

A couple who woke up to the sound of 'scuffling' in their home were stunned to discover four sheep wandering about on their roof.

Kristen Jackson, 28, and Daniel Payne, 33, were in bed when they noticed the unusual sound coming from above at around 8am yesterday, 16 August.

And when Kristen stepped outside the house in Whitworth, near Rochdale, Lancashire, she was confronted by a flock of sheep on top of the property.

Kristen said: "I was working from home and my partner had the day off but I was awake and just heard loads of scuffling on the roof.

"I woke my partner up and was like: 'Do you hear that?'. He said: 'It’s probably just birds'. With the wood next to us we get a lot of wood pigeons and it’s not the first time we’ve heard them outside. But I was sure it sounded much heavier and it was going on for some time."

Curious to discover the cause of the noise, Kristen put a dressing gown on and stepped out of the back door.

She was shocked to find four sheep who had managed to jump to the top of the single-storey bungalow.

Kristen said: "I burst out laughing and ran back inside to first of all grab my phone - as I just had to get a photo as no one would believe me - but I shouted at my partner to come out and said he had to see this. I didn’t tell him what it was so when he came out, I think he must of thought I was overreacting to something.

"He looked up and he couldn’t believe it and started laughing. We knew how they had got onto the roof but it’s still crazy to think they actually did it."

Kristen, who has lived at the home she is renovating with Daniel since last June, says that while sheep and cows have wandered near her home before, she had never seen them on the roof until Thursday.

Kristen added: "I'm more concerned they didn’t make any damage or fall of the edges as it’s a big drop. As we were spotted it spooked the sheep, so thankfully they got off the roof straight away and managed to make their way back up the hill towards the fields."
