Attempted murder arrest after woman found unconscious in front garden of Newton Heath house
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found unconscious and seriously injured in the front garden of a house.
The woman, 49, was discovered critically injured in Newton Heath, Manchester at around 9.30am on Saturday 29 August.
She was taken to hospital fighting for her life, but no update on her condition has been given.
Five people have now been arrested following the incident, Greater Manchester Police say.
In an update, the force said: "A 42-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for police questioning.
"Three women who were arrested on suspicion of assault have since been released on bail. A man who was arrested on suspicion of assault later on the same day has also been released on bail.
"Officers are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the incident and residents can expect to see increased patrols in the coming days."
Detective Inspector Michelle Buchanan, from GMP's Manchester district, said: "This was a disturbing attack on a woman who is still recovering from her injuries.
"We remain in close contact with her family to provide updates when we can.
"The investigation is very much ongoing, and we are still piecing together an exact timeline of what happened on Saturday morning.
"We are looking at all lines of enquiry and are keeping an open-mind as we carry out our work.
"Officers remain in the area with high-visibility patrols, and I would recommend that local residents chat to them if they have any concerns or queries. They are there to offer reassurances and will do what they can to help."
