Prince William awards MBE to Lancashire lockdown quizmaster Jay Flynn
The moment quizmaster Jay Flynn is awarded an MBE by Prince William.
An online quizmaster who kept the nation entertained during the lockdowns has been awarded an MBE at Windsor Castle.
Jay Flynn moved to Darwen, in Lancashire, after being homeless in London for two years.
The 39-year-old became an internet sensation during lockdown when his virtual pub quiz went viral after he mistakenly set a Facebook event to public instead of private.
The weekly quizzes quickly became a staple lockdown event, often bringing hundreds of thousands of people together, and still take place every week.
Celebrities flocked to get involved including Dame Judi Dench and Stephen Fry, who dubbed him the "Quiz masters' quiz master".
Jay has raised more than £1 m for charities, and holds a Guinness World Record for the most viewers of a quiz on a YouTube livestream.
He was also nominated for the Pride of Britain Granada Regional Fundraiser Award, becoming one of the region's four finalists.
And to top it off, Jay Flynn was awarded an MBE, in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's birthday honours list for his legendary fundraising efforts.
Prince William pinned the medal to his suit at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.
Did Prince William have anything to ask Jay during the ceremony?
During the ceremony, he said he was "so pleased and honoured" to have had the chance to meet William.
"He told me that he has not done a quiz yet but wants to get involved," Mr Flynn added. "I don't think I'll ever find out (when the duke will do a quiz) but I think he would be quite good.
"I think he'll do really well. It's just that great intelligence and that aura, you've got to be confident in a quiz to know that you're right. I think that's how he'll come across."
