Preston North End Football Club have appointed Ryan Lowe as the new team manager.

Ryan joined the club from Plymouth Argyle FC and tooks over from Frankie McAvoy with immediate effect.

He guided The Pilgrims to promotion from League Two to League One in the 2019/20 season - Plymouth Argyle now sit fourth in the third tier.

That was the second promotion on Ryan's CV as a team manager, having previously led Bury FC to League One.

Ryan said: "It's always difficult to leave a club that's well run, I have great relationships there."

"I know a lot of them will be gutted to see me go and same, but ultimately as a manager you move on, eventually, at some stage."

"When you head on to a team like Preston North End you can never say no. I know Plymouth Argyle are trying to get to the championship and definitely will get there with the structure and the owner and everyone else involved.

"But ultimately my ambition is to manage in a championship as quick as I possibly can and when that came to fruition it was a no brainer to take it."

Ryan says his attraction to Preston North End is as a football club in general. But a hero of his, Bill Shankly, who has also represented the club, also means a lot to him.

Preston North End said: "We would like to place on record our thanks to Plymouth Argyle for the professional way in which they have handled this matter."

Argyle have already appointed a new team manager, Steven Schumacher.

Argyle Director of Football Neil Dewsnip said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Steven and the club, and one that I know both parties will embrace.

"For as long as I’ve known him, Steven’s dedication to becoming the best coach he can be has been there for all to see, and I firmly believe the time is right for him to step into management."

Ryan's first game with Preston North End will be on Saturday 11th December when they host Barnsley.
