Second person dies after Queensway tunnel crash

A second person has died after a crash inside the Queensway tunnel in Merseyside.

A car and a taxi collided between Liverpool and Birkenhead in the early hours of Sunday. 

Paige Rice, 22, died in hospital shortly afterwards. The Manchester City footballer Jack Grealish was among those paying tribute to her.

A man, believed to be in his twenties, who had been in a critical condition since the weekend has also now died.

He was driving an Audi S3 which was involved in a collision with a taxi.

The taxi driver, a man in his 40s, also suffered serious injuries but his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

In an emotional tribute, Paige's mum Clare Rice said the makeup artist was visiting her boyfriend in Liverpool on the night she died.Clare said Paige from Marston Green, Solihull, West Midlands, was "a beautiful woman inside and out."

Clare said: ""Paige was just so full of life. She lived life to the full. Paige was incredibly popular and had so many friends."

More than £30,000 has been raised since Paige's death to help support her family and give her a 'send off she deserves.'

Merseyside Police previously said the cause of the crash was under investigation and had asked anyone who saw anything prior to the collision which could assist them to get in touch.
