Man arrested under terrorism act after bomb squad carry out controlled explosions at Darwen station
A man has been arrested under the terrorism act after carrying a suspicious package onboard a train in Lancashire.
Emergency services were called to Darwen train station at around 3.20pm on Monday.
The station was evacuated and closed off following reports that a 'suspicious package' had been discovered.
A bomb disposal unit carried out two controlled explosions but police say the items were not deemed a viable threat.
A man in his 50s was initially arrested on suspicion of a public order offence following a disturbance on a train.
He was then further arrested on suspicion of Terrorism Act offences in connection with comments made whilst aboard the train. He remains in police custody for questioning.
