'Amazing race'- Alesha Dixon congratulates 800m silver medalist Keely Hodgkinson
Keely Hodgkinson says she was thrilled to received congratulation messages from singer Alesha Dixon and Mo Farrah after winning silver in the 800m at the Olympics.
The 19-year-old from Atherton in Greater Manchester beat Dame Kelly Holmes record with a time of 01:55.88 seconds and told ITV's Mike Hall she knew she was capable of a medal.
She said: "I definitely knew it was within me. Training was going really well so I had some good confidence from that, so it's all about executing on the day because you don't know how these things are going to go. So, I managed to do that and returned home with a beautiful medal."
Keely says she's had plenty of 'pinch me' moments since then including when Sir Mo Farah commented on her Instagram post.
She said: "That was quite cool because I really enjoyed watching him in his career, and I got a comment from Alesha Dixon!"
Keely first realised she had a talent when she came second in a cross country race aged nine.
She joined Leigh Harriers and is now coached by former 800m runner Jenny Meadows and her husband Trevor Painter.
Keely describes herself as being the "underdog" going into Tokyo 2020 but says she's ready to give it her all in the quest for gold in the next Olympic games Paris 2024.
