A mural depicting George Floyd in Manchester city centre has been daubed with racist graffiti.The portrait of the US security guard, who died in Minneapolis after being forcibly held down by police officers, was targeted by vandals on Tuesday night, July 21.Manchester street artist Akse created the mural in the weeks that followed Mr Floyd's death on May 25.The painting was boarded up this morning after the vandalism, which saw the racist graffiti written across Mr Floyd's face.

Manchester City Council officials say they are working with police toreview CCTV footage from the area, as they vow to catch the person responsible.

Mr Floyd, an unarmed black man, was filmed gasping and saying 'I can’t breathe' as a white police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes. The video of his death sparked global protests through the Black Lives Matter movement, which included demonstrations across Greater Manchester.
