Family pays tribute to grandmother found dead in Lancashire
The family of a grandmother found dead in the Lancashire town of Nelson have paid tribute to her.
Detectives launched a murder investigation after they were called to an address on Victory Close in the town at about 11am on Wednesday June 3.
The sole occupant of the house, Mandy Houghton, 58, was found unresponsive with head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is being treated as suspicious and a murder inquiry is underway. A 72-year-old man from Nelson has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
A Home Office Post Mortem examination showed Ms Houghton died as a result of head injuries.
Today Ms Houghton’s family said: “Mandy was a much-loved Mum, sister and grandma. She was a happy soul that wouldn't hurt a fly. She has been taken from us too soon and is going to be deeply missed.”
The man leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Willis, of Lancashire Police’s Force Major Investigation Team, said: “My thoughts remain with Mandy’s family and all her loved ones at this time.
“These are tragic circumstances and we are continuing to work hard to establish exactly what has happened.
“While we have made one arrest, I would encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
