Body of 14-year-old boy found in River Irwell after huge search of Clifton Country Park
The body of teenage boy has been found following a huge search at aSalford park.
The 14-year-old was discovered in the water by specialist teams after people were evacuated from Clifton Country Park on Tuesday.
Police received a call at 3.30pm reporting concern for theyoungster and dozens of marked cars were sent to the scene.
In a statement, a spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 3.30pm onTuesday June 2, police were called to reports of concern for thewelfare of a teenage boy last seen in the River Irwell near to CliftonCountry Park.
"Emergency services attended alongside underwater search teams andsadly found the body of a boy – believed to be 14-years-old – in thewater a short time later.
"Specialist officers are supporting the boy’s family and enquiries are ongoing."
Residents first reported spotting the emergency teams at around 4pmand the area has since been closed off to the public.
Witnesses have said that there are at least 40 response vehicles at the scene.
A helicopter has been spotted overhead and has been circling the areafor much of the afternoon.
