Fire crews have been tackling a fire at a tower block in Manchester'sNorthern Quarter.

Smoke billowed from The Lighthouse on Joiner Street - off ChurchStreet - as flames tore through a section of the building this morning(Sunday).

Firefighters were seen battling the flames from an aerial platform.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue say the fire is now out and that around 60 residents who were evacuated are now gradually re entering the building.
