NHS makes plea for plasma donors in Manchester
People in Manchester who've recovered from coronavirus are being asked to help others overcome it by giving blood.
The Transfusion Service hopes their donated plasma will be rich in antibodies.
It can be given to seriously ill people who're struggling to develop immunity to the illness.
Hundreds to benefit from plasma Covid-19 treatment after 1,000 units donated
Potential donors would need to be able to travel by appointment to one of Manchester's two blood donor centres, Norfolk House and Plymouth Grove.
NHSBT is collecting the plasma initially for use in a trial, and if the trial is successful, widespread use in hospitals.
Plasma donation takes around 45 minutes.
Blood is circulated back to you as the plasma is removed.
Your body replaces the plasma within 24-48 hours and you can carry on with a normal day afterwards.
If you can help can you can give your details at www.nhsbt.nhs.uk or to the 0300 123 23 23 donor phone line.
