At 95, John Finch from Liverpool has no plans to retire.

In fact, the last surviving member of the original Coronation Street writing team, is hoping to publish his autobiography.

John describes his career with the world's longest-running drama as ''a completely unique experience.''

For him, the most memorable scene was writing the funeral of Ken Barlow's mother, Ida.

And Violet Carson, who played Ena Sharples, was the easiest character to write for - though John says the two fell out over a plot.

John won Sun Awards - precursors of the Baftas - for his scripts on another ITV drama, Family at War and concludes: ''Writers never retire.''
