Residents of an Isle of Man nursing home are being moved to other accommodation around the Island, in response to a coronavirus outbreak within their residential home.

Abbotswood Nursing Home in Ballasalla had its license suspended in April after 47 residents tested positive for the virus.

The residents will be temporarily transferred to either the community COVID ward at Newlands, or the former private patients unit at Noble's Hospital.

They will then be able to choose which residential home they wish to be transferred to, alongside their families.

The decision to move the residents has been made by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), who have been managing the home since 13th April.

The DHSC asked for a "suitable proposal" to keep residents in their home, but were unable to agree on a lease.

Health and Social Care Minister, David Ashford MHK, made a statement during the Isle of Man Government press conference.
