Warning from fire service in Greater Manchester over reports of people having barbecues on the moors

The fire service in Greater Manchester has issued a warning after reports of people having barbecues on the moors during the coronavirus lockdown.

It has been described as extremely dangerous and posing a "huge risk"at a time when resources are stretched.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "DespiteGovernment advice to stay at home we've had reports of lots ofpeople having barbecues on the moorlands and this is very dangerous."

There have been a number of moor fires in neighbouring West Yorkshirein recent weeks.

Crews in Greater Manchester spent three weeks tackling a hugesprawling wildlife on Saddleworth Moor which broke out in June 2018and covered an area of around seven square miles at its peak.
