Northern Powerhouse Minister "choses to leave government"

The Northern Powerhouse Minister Jake Berry has quit the Government.

Mr Berry, who was born in Liverpool, said he took the decision to leave the government.

The 41 year old MP for Rossendale and Darwen was appointed to the ministerial role in 2017.

He said he will continue to support the government and the Prime Minster from the back benches and will keep actively campaigning for his constituents.

Tonight the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, an independent body which represents business and civic leaders across the North, paid tribute to the politician.

The news comes after the MP for Tatton, Esther McVey was been sacked in Boris Johnson's reshuffle.

She's the tenth housing minister in less than 10 years to be axed by the Conservatives.
