Dredging project to remove 44,000 tonnes of silt starts in Peel Marina
A project to remove 44,000 tonnes of silt from Peel Marina starts today in the Isle of Man.
The process will involve using a long reach excavator on a floating barge.
Purpose-designed trailers will then transport the material 450 metres to a temporary draining pool.
Contractors, Land and Water Services Limited (LAWS) will construct the pool in a field upstream beyond the power station site.
The work is necessary to maintain access to the berths in the marina.
It is due to be completed in two equal stages - 22,000 tonnes to be removed between March and May this year and the same amount removed during the same period in 2021.
