Police appeal for information after man stabbed in Birkenhead

Police are investigating after a man stumbled into a Wirral shop after he was stabbed last night.

Pictures from the scene show blood spattered on the floor of the Birkenhead News and Off Licence at the junction between Borough Road and Whitford Road, in Birkenhead.

Emergency services were called to Borough Road near to the junction with Whitford Road to reports of a man in his 20s being assaulted at 5.30pm yesterday evening (Sunday December 29), he was taken to hospital for treatment of a non life-threatening stab wound.

One man, who was in the shop at the time, said that the man burst in "dripping with blood" shouting that he'd been stabbed.

He said: "I was in the shop when the young lad came in. He couldn't have been much older than 21.

"He was holding his chest and bleeding and he told me he'd been stabbed and to call an ambulance.

"The whole thing was very distressing, seeing a young lad stabbed like that."
