Liverpool Riverside gets the city's first ever black MP

Kim Johnson, 59, is Liverpool's first black MP.

She has been an active community campaigner and member of the Labour Party for some time - but she never expected she would be heading into December preparing to be a new Member of Parliament for the area where she grew up.

Ms Johnson was selected in a quickfire process after the winter General Election was called and following news that long-serving Liverpool Riverside MP Louise Ellman had quit the Labour Party and would be leaving politics altogether.
