71-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder after woman found dead in Altrincham

Police in Altrincham have arrested a 71-year-old man on suspicion of murder after a 59-year-old woman was found dead in her home.

Greater Manchester Police were called to an address on Whiteley Place last night by paramedics after the woman was found deceased.

A police cordon remains in place as initial enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Kelly, of GMP’s Trafford division, said: "I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased woman and our thoughts are with them at this very sad and difficult time.

"Our team are in the very early stages of their investigation and it is important that we keep an open mind and explore all lines of enquiry at this point."
