Fire crews fight huge warehouse blaze in Liverpool

People have been told to stay indoors while fire crews fight a large blaze at a warehouse in Liverpool.

10 fire engines, two aerial appliances and a high volume pump were sent at the height of the incident on Foster Street, Kirkdale.

Crews found a large quantity of non-hazardous household waste on fire inside a structure when they were called out in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The fire has affected two commercial units.

Residents and businesses nearby have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

There have been no injuries but a plume of smoke from the fire has been affecting visibility in the area.

Road closures remain in place and motorists are being advised to find alternative routes where possible.

A tow path along the Leeds-Liverpool canal is also affected by smoke. Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to also avoid the area.

Anyone with existing medical conditions should keep medicines nearby and should call NHS 111 if ill effects occur.

Firefighters are expected to remain on site throughout Sunday night.
