Bury FC 'astonished and in dismay' at EFL decision to expel club from football league

Bury FC have said they are 'shocked, and disappointed with the EFL’s decision to expel this wonderful, historic, community driven Club from the Football league.'

The League One outfit had been given until 5pm on Tuesday August 27 to push the deal through and convince the EFL it could secure the club's future.

But the hopes of fans and the community of Bury were dashed on Tuesday night when Bury were expelled by the English Football League after a takeover bid for the club collapsed.

In a statement, Bury FC said:

The EFL said they had "fully considered all available options, including a number of late expressions of interest" but "unanimously determined with enormous regret that Bury's membership be withdrawn.''
