Bury lost their professional league status during the course of a disastrous period which saw the club and its fans experience the full agony and ecstasy of football.

Promoted to League One at the end of last season, they were already fighting for survival.

But the hoped-for buy-out of the club which could have saved it never materialised. A lengthy, drawn-out process of false hope and pure torture for their loyal supporters ended in a unanimous vote to exclude them from the English Football League.
