Weather forecast for Whaley Bridge - What can residents expect over the coming days?

Whaley Bridge. August 2019

Low pressure is in charge this week, bringing the continued mix of sunshine and showers for the whole week. Showers, where they occur, will be heavy and thundery.

Sunday afternoon and evening, the early hours of Monday morning (briefly) and Tuesday are the times we're most concerned about in the shorter term.

Although showers are likely midweek into Thursday, these are expected to be less impactful on the Whaley Bridge area.

SUNDAY

Showers much more likely than on Saturday. The main shower risk will be afternoon and early evening. These will be heavy and perhaps thundery. Late afternoon/early evening they could merge to persist for an hour or two.

Most probable accumulations are 5-10mm, much of this falling in a short period of time. Reasonable worst case of 20-40 mm in 2-3 hours.

MONDAY

Rain, heavy at times, during the early hours of Monday, but clearing by dawn. A much better day thereafter.Mostly dry for the rest of the day. Occasional passing showers possible in the afternoon, but they will be shorter-lived, less intense than Sunday's showers.

Most probable accumulations are 3-7mm, this mostly from early showery rain. Reasonable worst case of 10-15 mm.

TUESDAY

A tricky day. Further showers, forming in bands, moving eastwards. Individual showers should move through quickly with some reasonable dry spells in-between, but should they form over the area they could last for a few hours.

The exact location where these occur is hard to forecast.

Most probable accumulations of 5-10mm with reasonable worst case of 30-40mm over the course of 3-4 hours.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY

Similar conditions midweek but showers slower moving than on Tuesday. So these will be heavy and more prolonged where they occur. Although not out of the question, but less chance of these affecting Whaley Bridge.

Thursday, at present, looks like a drier day. Although they remain in the forecast these are less likely to affect Whaley Bridge.
