Murder arrest after body of 88 year old woman found in back garden

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found in the garden of a house in Merseyside.

Police say they were called to a house in Kenilworth Road in Ainsdale on Monday night after a phone call raising concerns for the safety of an 88 year old woman.

A 58-year-old man from Ainsdale was arrested on suspicion of murder, then released under investigation and detained under the Mental Health Act.

A police spokesman said an investigation is underway.

The victim is yet to be formally identified and officers are working to contact next of kin.
