Jeremy Corbyn: multi billion pound investment in Mersey Tidal Power Project will 'power up the North'

Labour has announced a multi billion pound fund in a project to address climate change and boost investment in the North of England.

In a visit to Liverpool today, party leader Jeremy Corbyn will discuss plans for £3.5 billion of investment for the Mersey Tidal Power Project - which will harness the power of the River Mersey and Liverpool Bay to produce renewable energy.

It's hoped the project could power up to a million homes, create thousands of jobs and contribute toward the UK’s zero-carbon economy.

The Labour leader is in Liverpool today.

Mr Corbyn said the project will "kick-start Labour’s Green Industrial Revolution, power up the north and create thousands of new jobs".
