Preston North End have agreed a deal to re-sign striker David Nugent, who has put pen to paper on a deal from 1st August.

The Liverpool-born forward, who originally arrived at Deepdale from Bury in January 2005, has gone on to have a stellar career in the Premier League and Championship, scoring over 160 goals.

His first spell saw him score 37 goals in 95 starts leading to a move to then Premier League Portsmouth for what was then a club record fee.

Nugent will take the No.35 shirt he first wore when he initially joined the Lilywhites from the Shakers.

He has been undergoing rehabilitation for an injury he picked up in the first leg of the Play-Offs, but will work with the North End physios ready for a return to action in the coming weeks and will complete his deal in time for the new season.
