A scarecrow dressed as a traffic officer and clutching a homemade speed camera is being deployed to urge motorists to slow down.

The figure, dressed in a high vis jacket, stands alongside Southport Road in Sefton.

Nicknamed "Speedo" - her traffic camera is actually an empty bleach bottle covered in tin foil.

It was installed by a parish councillor after her plea for speed cameras at the accident blackspot went unanswered.

Edie Pope says the reaction has been positive.

"Only one person has told me it's not for them. Well, a cyclist going under a car is not for me, so the scarecrow will be staying where it is."

"Speedo" was originally created as part of the local scarecrow festival, but Edie Pope says the reaction has been positive and she plans to leave it where it is.
