12 year old girl killed in M61 motorway crash

Police in Lancashire are appealing for the public's help after a 12-year-old girl died in a hit and run accident in Lancashire.

Officers were called to the Northbound carriageway between Junction Eight and the Bolton West/Rivington services, at 10.45 on 6 July when a Vauxhall Corsa collided with a Nissan Qashqai.

Police say the occupants of the Corsa fled the scene.

The girl was in the Nissan and has been named by police as Sana Patel, from Blackburn. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Five other people travelling in the Qashqai suffered minor injuries.

A man and woman, both from Yorkshire, were arrested and have been released pending further inquiries.
