Idris Elba rushed to the rescue of a woman who had seizure during theatre performance

A theatre-goer who suffered a seizure during a performance woke up to find Hollywood star Idris Elba checking on her.

Amanda Billington was watching a preview of the show Tree which was created by Elba and Kwame Kwei-Armah for the Manchester International Festival.

During the performance Amanda, an illustrator from Salford Quays, collapsed and was struggling to calm her breathing down.

She said she regularly suffers from seizures due to an undiagnosed condition, but said she has never experienced such a public episode before.

A consultant who was also in the audience came to her aid and the performance was briefly halted while paramedics attended.

When Amanda came to she was surprised to find movie star Elba standing over her and checking she was ok, as she was not even aware he had been in the venue.

Amanda praised the paramedics and MIF staff for the handling of the situation.

She was taken to hospital to be checked over and has since returned home.The performance of Tree continued following the incident.

Tree is running at Manchester International Festival from now until Saturday, July 13.
