Major incident declared at huge warehouse fire at Widnes industrial estate

Twelve fire engines are at the scene of a large fire at the Golden Triangle Industrial Estate in Harrison Street, Widnes.

Crews arrived at 9pm on Thursday 27 June to find the fire had spread to four industrial units.

A 300m cordon has been established for safety, with people living near the estate being evacuated from their homes.

One casualty, a man, has been given first aid by firefighters before being handed over to the care of paramedics.

Residents living nearby are being urged to keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution - because the fire is generating a large amount of smoke.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue service say their teams are making "good progress" at bringing the fire under control, but do not expect residents to be able to return to their homes until later on Friday.

People are being asked to avoid the area.
