Metallica made a huge donation to a Manchester-based homeless charity before their sold-out gig at the Etihad Stadium.

The heavy metal legends handed over an astonishing £40,000 to Northern Quarter-based Coffee4Craig.

Charity boss Hendrix Lancaster said the cash is enough to fund their work for the next 12 months.

Metallica's charity foundation 'All Within My Hands' shared a picture of the band handing over the cheque to Coffee4Craig with the message: "Thank you to all the fans attending #MetInManchester tonight for joining @metallica in supporting @coffee4craig, as they support vulnerable people in their community."

Hendrix, who set up the charity with his wife Risha in 2013 following the death of Risha’s brother Craig, attended last night's concert with charity volunteers - and Metallica superfans - Mandi Quigley and Connor Sherry.
