Tennis star Naomi Broady calls for more financial support for young players

Stockport's Tennis star Naomi Broady is calling for more financial support for young players from less wealthy backgrounds.

28 year old Broady is in action today in the Manchester Trophy which is seen as a springboard for her push for a place in Wimbledon.

Speaking out, the player said tennis is still viewed as an 'upper class, elitist' sport and it's governing body, the LTA could still do more to help grow the sport.

Broady, whose biggest asset is a powerful serve, has had to support herself ever since a family fall-out with the Lawn Tennis Association 11 years ago, when the governing body objected to photographs posted of her on a social media.

The LTA suspended Broady’s funding, resulting in her father opting to sell the family home to fund his daughter and her brother Liam's tennis careers.

While Liam eventually opted for reconciliation with the LTA, Naomi has always refused to play in the Fed Cup or be available for selection to represent GB in the Olympics.
