Manx Captain sails for the final time exactly 50 years since first day at sea

Captain Allan Albiston will set sail for the final time on 28th May after working at sea for exactly half a century.

He obtained a Master's Foreign Going Certificate in 1983 before taking command of both SeaCats and conventional vessels.

His career has also involved taking the Lady of Mann on charter trips to the Azores over four consecutive seasons.

His love for sailing started as a catering boy in 1969 working on the former Ben-my-Chree vessel.

Captain Albiston spoke fondly of how he first wanted to pursue a maritime career.

For the final voyage, he will Captain the Ben-my-Chree ferry from Heysham arriving in to the Isle of Man at 6:00pm.
