An independent report into the health and social care services in the Isle of Man has found the current system to be "clinically and financially unsustainable".

The report contains 26 recommendations which will be put forward in Tynwald later this month for approval.

Sir Jonathan Michael has been working on the report since April 2018 looking at the effectiveness of the current system.

One of the recommendations includes a new public body, commissioned by the government, that focuses on delivering care.

The body will report to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) who will still be responsible for policy and strategy, but putting care into action will be the responsibility of the new body.

Overspending was also addressed in the report after the DHSC continue to overspend each year.

If changes are not made to the health system, costs will rise by 2.7% each year.

By 2035, an additional £156m more funding would be needed.

Health Minsiter, David Ashford MHK, responded to the recommendations put forward in the report.
