Tower goes green for Lyme disease
Blackpool Tower will be lit up in green over the next few days in recognition of Lyme Disease Awareness Month.
The event has been arranged former champion swimmer Sophie Ward, who lost her Olympic career after contracting the debilitating disease.
Sophie, from Garstang in Lancashire, was bitten by a tick during a visit to a Panda sanctuary during the Beijing Olympics.
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that can be spread to humans by infected ticks. Its estimated there are thousands of new cases of the disease every year.
