Youth charged with offences after Yousef Makki stabbing

Yousef Makki, 17, was fatally injured as a result of a stabbing in Hale Barns, which is south of Manchester.

The accused, who cannot be identified as he is under 18, appeared at Manchester and Salford Youth Court accused of possession of a blade, perverting the course of justice with intent and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Another youth, who also can't be identified because of his age, appeared in court separately and pleaded not guilty to Yousef's murder.

Yousef's mother and brother sat at the back of the court, with the defendant sitting between his own mother and father in front of the magistrates' bench.

No pleas were entered and reporting restrictions were not lifted.

The victim, who was from an Anglo-Lebanese family living in Burnage, Manchester, had dreamed of becoming a heart surgeon and won a scholarship to attend the prestigious £12,000-a-year Manchester Grammar School.

District Judge John Temperley sent the case for trial at Manchester Crown Court, with a first appearance of the defendant there scheduled for May 30.

The youth was granted bail on condition he lives at his home address, reports to police once a week and observes an 8pm to 7am daily curfew.
