A stand at Everton FC's stadium has been lit up in blue and purple to mark one year since the death of toddler Alfie Evans

The 23 month old died after spending more than a year in hospital with a degenerative neurological condition.

He became the centre of an ongoing legal battle over whether to maintain life support, which his parents eventually lost.

Alfie’s parents Tom and Kate gathered at the Dixie statue to hold a vigil.

The club and their official charity "Everton in the Community" are currently supporting plans by Alfie's parents to set up a foundation in his name.
