Corey Fricker, 27, broke into Kieren Hamilton's Oldham home and attacked him whilst his one-year old daughter was asleep in the room next door.
Mr Hamilton was left needing surgery to his arm after he was stabbed when he refused to hand anything over to Fricker and his accomplice.
The French Bulldog, Rambo, worth over £2,000 has not been found.
Fricker was detained on 7th June when he was caught by officers from Greater Manchester Police driving a stolen car. Officers discovered nearly 10kg of class B drug Amphetamine, worth around £93,000.
Judge Stuart Driver QC labelled Fricker - who has a string of convictions for violence and robbery - as a 'dangerous' offender.
Fricker's defence barrister, Kevin Donnelly told the court that his client had expressed remorse for his actions towards Mr Hamilton.
