New project by world famous artist to be unveiled in Liverpool

Ugo Rondinone is famous for creating large scale public art sculptures.

A giant sculpture by world famous artist Ugo Rondinone has been taking shape on Liverpool's Royal Albert Dock.

The 10 metre tall artwork is called Liverpool Mountain and is the artist's first major work in the UK:

The project marks the 10th anniversary of Liverpool European Capital of Culture, the 20th anniversary of Liverpool Biennial and the 30th anniversary of Tate Liverpool.

It's part of the "mountain series" by artists Ugo Rondinone:

Famous for creating large scale sculptures, his latest work will be similar to the technicolour towers created in Miami and Las Vegas.

The artwork celebrates Liverpool City Region’s commitment to supporting bold, contemporary art.

The artworks are made of rocks stacked vertically, with each stone painted a different fluorescent colour.

The sculpture will transform the Mermaid Courtyard area, next to Tate Liverpool at Royal Albert Dock Liverpool.

Ugo Rondinone’s Liverpool Mountain is one of a number of events forming part of the Liverpool 2018 programme.
