A prisoner has died at HMP Liverpool - the second at the jail in three weeks

An investigation's underway after the death of another prisoner at HMP Liverpool.

47 year old Ian Galtress from Birkenhead was found dead inside the Walton jail, prompting a probe by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO).

A spokesperson for the prison service said:

“HMP Liverpool prisoner Ian Galtress died in prison on 14 October 2018. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”

His death is the second death at HMP Liverpool in three weeks.
